  • Richland Chambers Fishing Report - TX

I can't remember a more mild, wet and wild September in quite a few years!!! Record rainfall amounts in the Lake area has Lake Richland Chambers above Full Pool Level and Spillway Gates open as of this writing. Some really strong Winds and Electrical Storms had many of us up several nights recently listening to Weather Alerts and then surveying the damage to trees & property after the Storms passed. Mild temperatures associated with a mid month Cool Front has us thinking about the Fall rather than the hot September days we're used too. And before and after all this weather, we still managed to get on the Lake quite a few trips and catch fish! 🙂

The large amount of fresh water did slow the White Bass and Hybrid Striper bite, but it also made us check out the Catfish that we normally don't fish for till the cooler months. The Blue and Channel Cats seem to love the cooler temps and have now become the fish we're fishing for (and catching) on a lot of our trips. We're making the trip up the Richland Arm of the Lake and fishing along the Creek Channel in 20' feet of water and usually near timber. We often chum (Range Cubes and Maize) to bring the Catfish in and then use Danny Kings Punch Bait on a # 4 Treble Hook to catch the Cats. You will often find the fish right on the bottom, but if not reel up a turn or two and you will sometimes find them suspended in the water column. RC has so many Catfish that on many days we may catch and release twice as many fish as we keep. You will catch a lot of small fish right now, but as we move into Fall and Winter, the quality will improve dramatically!

Adam and I have quite a few September and October Weekday openings and it's none too early to reserve a date for the upcoming Fall Holidays (Columbus Day, Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving Holidays)!
