  • Richland Chambers Fishing Report - TX

What an awesome start to the Fall of 2020 with Great Days to be on a Great Lake, overall mild temperatures, and the fish are biting!!! 🙂 We've been fortunate to be on the Lake most days in October and have seen the Summer turn into Fall with lots of migratory birds (Gulls, Pelicans, Loons, Osprey and even a few Eagles) showing up. It's really neat to see Eagles & Osprey flying high over the Lake as they look for their next meal and we look for fish!

One bird I didn't mention but are here by the thousands are Cormorants and we know where they are as we're fishing near them almost every day. The Cormorants arrive every October and roost in the upper end of the Richland Creek Arm of the Lake in the heavy timbered portions of the Creek Channel. The birds are there because of the timber to roost in at night, but the baitfish and Catfish are there also and attract the large flocks of birds of every species. I've been told for years that the Cormorants "eat their weight in fish and baitfish on a daily basis". The Cormorants and Blue & Channel Catfish will be in this area of the Lake all Fall and Winter and are very easy to catch with almost any bait you choose...Shad, Chicken Livers, Cheese Bait, and our bait of choice which is Danny Kings Blood Punch Bait. We fish the Punch Bait on a # 4 Treble Hook on or near the bottom in water depths ranging from 15'-25' feet of water. The fish will move from area to area, but if you're in the Crab or Grape Creek area or along the timber above Rustling Oaks Subdivision, you're in the best Catfish Area on the Lake! (We buy all our Danny Kings from Wooded Acres Bait Shop on FM 416 in Streetman and support James and Dawn Cantrell who make and distribute the popular East Texas Catfish Bait)

While you can still find and catch a few White Bass and Hybrid Stripers in the cooler months, we stick with the Catfish as the bite is so good! On a normal day you will end up with limits or a full Ice Chest. (See Pic from yesterday's trip with the folks from New Life Baptist Church in Covington) They are fun to catch and great guests for your next Fish Fry! 🙂 Fall and Winter days on Richland Chambers can be memorable as you not only catch a LOT of fish, but you may catch the BIGGEST fish of your lifetime! If this sounds like FUN to you, give us a call. We fish everyday except for Sunday, have lots of November Weekday openings and we even have a few openings on some upcoming Saturdays and during the Thanksgiving Week.
