Spring is knocking at the door with fishing patterns here in East Central Florida on the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon. As the water slowly warms in the late winter jump starts baitfish and gamefish migration back to the north after wintering further south. Bait like glass minnows, mullet and pilchards included and game fish being JackCrevalle, Bluefish, Ladyfish, Pompano, Spanish Mackerel. Our year round resident fish like Seatrout, Snook, Redfish, Black Drum,Mangrove Snapper and others also become more active with rising water temps. Surface activity also increases after a winter of most sealife hugging the bottom, add the spring shrimp run in the mix formore fish food, available live bait and surface attacks by the gamefish makes spring one of my favorite seasons for local fishing. Longtime regular clients from Ohio out with me recently, Carter with oneof the fun Black Drum he caught and released …………..
Brentfrom Minnesota here for a winter Florida visit fished small luresslow and along the bottom catching Redfish and Seatrout ………….
