Bass including the spots and largemouth bass are still in their summer time pattern, but the water is beginning to cool as we finally enter fall. Schooling activity is starting lake wide with the early to mid afternoon being the best time. Find the fish busting schools of shad and throw a chrome and black or white Rebel Pop-R or a bone color Chug Bug. Crank baits are still working well when fishing fish rocky banks and points. They can be caught on main lake road beds in 18 to 20 feet on water using crank baits and live shad. Spots are holding in 8 to 10 feet of water and are biting Shad Raps and DT6 crank baits in shad color. Long flat points mid lake to the dam are the best areas. The top water can break out at any time of the day, so keep a top water bait ready. Baby bass is another good color and spots as well as largemouth are hitting these baits. Also take along some lipless crank baits in blue and chrome or fire tiger color and work the same areas as you did with the flukes and spooks. Spinnerbaits like the Mini Me in a 3/8 ounce with a white skirt is another good bait to work these feeding frenzy areas.

Line sides are schooling in the mouths of coves and chasing shad. Use popping corks and flies, 1/2 to 3/4 ounce rooster tails and 2 and 1/2 inch sassy shads to catch them.
