LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 4.8 FEET, CLEAR & 73 DEGREES
Bass fishing is good and things are changing daily due to the temps reaching the point that the lake is beginning the turn over. Fishing during this phenomenon slows for a couple of week due to dissolved oxygen level not being less than desirable. During this period we like to slow down and it also seems that shallow fish are affected less. Buzz baits are good but for the numbers this week, go to the Spro McStick jerk bait to load the boat. Use a pretty quick retrieve with a short pause between jerks. Points and secondary points are great places to start with this technique and wind is a big help. Shallow square bill cranks with brown and chartreuse are great. We are still using baits like the Big Bite Jerk Minnow weightless or on a ½ ounce Fish Head Spin ready for sudden action. The jig head bite is great also using a 1/8 ounce jig head tipped with a Big Bite 6 inch squirrel tailed worm or a green pumpkin Yo Mama with the tail dipped chartreuse. Keep it in contact with the bottom and hit all visible cover.

Line side fishing is fair and the fish are starting to school back up and are willing to eat. We caught most of our fish this week down lining shad off of main lake points and humps. We also caught some decent fish 1/3 of the way back in the major creeks like Kellogg Creek, Stamp Creek and Illinois Creek. Most of these schools are 15 to 24 feet deep and want the bait right on their nose. Thread fins are out fishing Gizzard, but not by much. The dissolved oxygen level is very low right now. Bait is dying quickly on a hook, so be sure to carry plenty of bait with you and change it often. Top water is sporadic at best, there are small schools coming up all over the lake. But they don't stay up long. And unless they coming up in casting distance it's just isn't worth chasing the. Trolling is decent wit the umbrella rigs and color doesn't seem to matter. We are running our rigs 100 feet behind the boat at speeds between 2.4 to 3.1 miles and hour.
