The last couple weeks the patterns just have not changed that much on the south end of the lake. The grass beds are holding the best schools of fish. Even though the water has cooled off with the cold fronts that’s passing by the bait and fish are still doing basically the same thing. The early bite isn’t there for me like it was it seems to be best about 9:30 am and then a better big fish bite is around 12:00. A lot of the grass beds that’s closer to deeper water seem to be best, but the grass is still only 1 to 3 feet deep. Buzz baits and Blue glimmer gun fish and even repo man is doing well. From day to day you just have to see if they want the faster moving bait or the slower moving repo man and gun fish. I have even had days where the repo man and gun fish have been good early in the morning the around 11 they want the buzzbait and won’t hit the walking baits as well. The swim bait and Rat L Trap is still producing also, I am leaving the lower part of my fishing report for the guys who have not seen it. If you find bait in a area hit it a couple times a day, you just have to be in the area when they eat. So rotate and keep an eye out for any movement of bait and bass. We are seeing a lot of fish move before we catch them.
The Fall fishing has just begun! This is one of my favorite times of year to catch Kentucky lakes bass. The bait and bass are in migration mode this time of year. I am doing my best by running south past Danville area or the ferry crossing. This is the area that has the best hydrilla. The main reason I like fishing the hydrilla this time of year is that it gives the bass an area where he can hide and wait for the bait to come to him. A bass is a predator and prefers to ambush’s its prey. The large grass beds give him that opportunity. So much of Kentucky lake is just open flats where he has no choice to chase downs its food across the large flats this lake is made of.
Kentucky Lake is a river system lake so current plays a major role in the bass feeding style. If you’re fishing further north then focus on small ditches, shallow ledges that the bass can set up on and then charge up onto the flats and feed. If you can find stumps or brush piles then make sure you fish them and you can return to them at different times of the day.
You can find areas where the bass are in large schools, I have several of them located and from fishing just about every day I know that the fish are feeding in groups throughout the day. You just have to keep fishing your areas over and over with different baits. My main bait is top water right now; I’m fishing Buzzbaits, Spooks and Gun Fish.
With the lake dropping a lot of the grass is matted near the surface, there’s a lot of bait is in these areas, so the bass are feeding there and the buzzbait is one of the few baits that I can fish the area with. Another is ZOOMS Horney toad, White or black are the colors I’m doing best on.
Other lures are Rat L Traps in Bag 5 New Blue Glimmer, swim baits with a ½ ounce Elite Pro Twist lock head, Spinnerbaits and also a shallow crankbait in Bag5 Blue Glimmer.
All of these lures are catching fish I just use the lure according to the water depth and cover that I am fishing. If you’re having trouble finding any of these baits contact the following.

Its Fall now and foul weather will hit us, being prepared for this is a must. If a your out on the water and a cold rain or winds hit during your fishing trip having a rain suite may be ok, but it’s so important to have one that will truly keep you dry during the day. I have used so many expensive rain suites and still get wet and cold. I now use Gill’s rain gear; this company has gear that will keep you dry and warm no matter how much it rains. If you’re in the market for a fantastic rain gear then check out Gillna.com feel free to contact me if you need.

Ledge Fishing on the water class
The fish are on the ledges good and it’s a good time to learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
