  • My name is Adam Vogelsang, I live in Louisville, Ky, and I have a houseboat at Horsecreek Marina on Dale Hollow Lake. I target Smallmouth bass 90% of the time that I'm on the water. Any reports regarding other species will be second hand, aka "docktalk". Thanks for tuning in.

Hey anglers, sorry its been so long since my last update. The water temps are 63 and the water is clear on the main lake with a slight stain in the backs of the creeks. The weather is changing fast and the water will get cooler with the cold nights we've been having.

I've been getting a lot of emails and concerns about the fish kill of 2012. The kill is over and there are still smallmouth in the lake. I'm not sure on the amount of fish we've lost but the ones I've been getting in the boat are really healthy. The lake is in rebound right now and will be for the next few years. What does this mean? It means that there are plenty of fish left to reproduce and to catch.

I went out this weekend for some smallmouth action and was not disappointed. I found hungry bass in the 5-25 feet deep range. Early morning they were cruising the banks looking for breakfast and in the afternoon they were out deep grabbing a snack here and there. I threw a 3/4 oz football jig in the morning with a lighter 3/8 oz peanut head jig in the afternoon. There was even a short lived top water bite early morning. But it was over by 8am. The only way to catch the elusive smallmouth a of Dale Hollow is to get out there and start hunting for them. If you find some stick with them. Don't move to find a similar bank or hump. Just sit still and wait. They'll come back for your jig, it may take 15-30 minutes but if they are there they will continue to eat. Good luck and be safe in the fog.
