  • Outstanding Bass Fishing at Lake Lanier

Bass fishing is outstanding. We are experiencing some of the best top water fishing in weeks. We are consistently catching 20 pound 5 fish limits of spots, numerous 5 pound spots, and great numbers of both spots and stripers every day. The brush in 18 to 25 feet has really been holding well and the fish are becoming very predictable with the daily sunshine. Even when the Corp of Engineers in not pulling water or the clouds are present, the bite is still strong. In the mornings, when the wind is up, we have been doing well on a variety of Swim baits and crank baits around rocky points and islands at the mouths of the major creeks. Once the sun gets up good, we have been running the brush with top water and swim baits. A Gun Fish, a Chug Bug, a Repo Man, along with the Bite and Snack sized Herring from Sworming Hornet Lures have been the best choices. My next available dates are October 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Give me a call and reserve your October date NOW!

Striper fishing is fair and there are several patterns working. Flat lines with a small split shot early on the points and then down lines after 10am are the main patterns. Top water is coming and the fish up now are mostly spots with a few small stripers in the schoolers. The stripers have not been up yet strong yet but this bite has to start soon. Just keep a large top water lure like the large Zara Spook or a large Chug Bug ready on 12 pound test. Live bait will work but the fish are still deep during the day.

The down line bite is fair, but add one flat line out 60 to 80 feet with blue backs and shiners. On the flat line, run a bobber on your line 10 feet above a 6 foot leader of 12 pound Fluorocarbon line and small hooks. Try and get these baits as shallow as ten feet on main lake humps, points and reef markers. Watch that Lowrance and you may see the fish dead on the bottom at 60 feet all day. On down lines, use 12 pound fluorocarbon on a small red bait hook and a 6 foot leader and a 2 ounce sinker. Drop the baits on a clear bottom and then reel them up 6 feet. The secret here is to sit dead still to keep the baits from swimming too much.
