  • Cold Front Hits Richland Chambers

Just in case you haven't noticed, it's been a COLDDDDDD Winter so far! Seems that every week we get another Cold Front that moves through East Texas and each one seems to be a little cooler than the last! We have been fortunate to get some rain with a couple of the December Fronts and the lake level has come up almost 3' from it's negative 10' low water mark back in November. Keep your fingers crossed that we get a LOT more late Winter and early Spring rains and get Richland Chambers' water level back to where it needs to be.

In between the Cold Fronts, we've managed to get on the lake a couple of days each week. We've had our regular "Winter Customers" who like to bundle up, get out and enjoy an afternoon of fishing with us on recent outings! We've been starting most trips around 10 or 11am, and then fishing till around 3pm. This is the nicest part of the day, the fish seem to bite a little better, and a nice balmy 50 or 60 degree day is just what the doctor ordered for many folks! Cabin fever can set in if you spend too many days cooped up in the house watching game shows, the outdoor channel or soap operas.

We've just all but given up on catching any aggressive White Bass or Hybrids as the water temperatures have stayed in the high 40's and the fish are not only tough to find, but tough to get to bite if you do find them. It won't be long till we get some Spring Like weather and we'll be back catching the Whites then. But, not too worry as we've had a great early Winter of Catfishing! We've been finding LOTS of Channel and Blue Cats up the Richland Creek arm of the lake in the heavy timber. Some days the fish are in the 10'-15' water and on other days, we have caught them in as much as 30' of water. We're catching most of the fish on Danny Kings Punch Bait which you can find at Walmart, or Wooded Acres Bait Shop on FM 416 in Streetman. (James at Wooded Acres makes this excellent bait) Just drop the bait to the bottom, lay the rod on the side of the boat, and watch the rod tip very closely. The bite is usually very subtle, but when you set the hook, you will really have a fight on your hands. While most of our fish are in the 2 lb. range, we've landed some Blues in the 20 lb. range. If you like FUN and good eating, this may be for you!

Keep an eye on the weather forecast, pick a nice day and give us a call. We even have a "WINTER SPECIAL RATE" to entice you! It was nice on Friday and our customers had a 50 fish box, and on Saturday we managed 35 nice keepers! This time of the year we've rarely got both boats booked on a Weekday and we even have Saturdays open in January and February.

    Hope to see you soon!
