LAKE ALLATOONA IS DOWN 12.01 FEET, MUDDY & 48 DEGREES

Bass fishing is tough. The best bet remains creeks and pocket areas off the main lake. Use Strike King 3/8 ounce pumpkin jig with a Zoom Super Chunk trailer in Root beer green pepper. Try it on a bait casting rod with the with Sufix Elite 14 pound test. Use a Jr. sized trailer on the mini jigs. Look for stumps and brush in 5 to 8 feet of water afternoons as it warms a little. Also fish the points, and humps that have deep water access and boat docks. The key is finding the brush. Small mini jigs in green pumpkin with a matching Zoom trailer are best. Check the creeks and pockets for the warmest water available. These areas will warm faster and hold more active fish.

Line side fishing is slow. The shad kill is in full swing and there is dead and dying bait everywhere. This year we are seeing the biggest shad on Lake Allatoona in many years. This will make fishing poor for the next few weeks. But there is a bright side to this kill. Our spring bite should be off the charts this year. We look for the bite to return by the first or second week of March. And expect it to be off the charts by the first of April. If you just have to get out of the house and wet a line. Your best bet maybe big Shad or Trout fished behind planner boards and on free lines. You won't wear them out but there is the possibility of catching a monster. The bite has been so slow on Lake Allatoona, that we will be moving all our trips to Carters Lake. We will get back on Lake Allatoona when the fishing picks back up.
