Lake Cumberland fishing report for march 27 th 2014. The water temp on main lake is lower 40's still but head of creeks are in the lower 50's. Striper fishing has been up and down do to cold fronts and lack of warming water. The most productive fishing has been pulling planer boards from surface to 30 ft deep in the warmer water up the creeks. The bass fishing has been fair also in same water on jerk baits and spinnerbaits.
Smallmouth fishing has been a little slow on main lake but steady on floating fly method.
Crappie fishing has also been steady on minnows and jigs fished close to cover 10 to 25 ft deep.
The river on the other hand has been on fire lately. The trout fishing is as good as I have seen it in years. Many large browns are showing up and very nice rainbows mixed in. Also most days quality brook trout also biting dead shad fished close to dam in the boils. Most days a 1/4 sinker is best but other days a 1/2 ounce is best. The saugers are still slow but a occasional nice one shows up. The white bass are still a couple of weeks away seems like. God bless and take a kid fishing. Also please read new regulations on transporting live bait in ky. The rules have changed trying to combat the spread of the Asian carp and I am 100% in favor of law change!!
