  • Kentucky Lake Fishing Report

The Bass fishing on Kentucky lake is really good here on the south end. I have been catching 30 to 50 keeper fish a day with several fish over 4pounds and many 5 to 7 lb bass. I am mainly fishing the main lake with an A rig fishing the main lake flats. There’s a lot of bait there and the fish are schooling on them. I’m finding some huge school of fish, using my Lowrance HDS units my structure scan makes it so easy to identify these fish and schools of bait. My Lowrance GPS mapping is how I can stay on top of these fish. I am fishing the A Rig with ZOOM’s swimming super flukes in shad patterns. With a Elite pro twist lock swim bait head.(eliteprobaits.com) This Elite pro swimbait head is the best, it has a screw lock on the hook, with a large 5/0 hook it keeps my ZOOM Swimming Fluke stay in place while slinging the heavy A Rig. I am fishing it on 50 to 65 lb braid.

Another pattern is fishing shallow cranks and Rat-L-Traps in the flats and channel banks leading into the spawning flats. Shad patterns seem to be doing best. On some of the rocky banks you can catch some good fish on a jig. Black and blue green pumpkin and blue with a ZOOM super chunk or fat albert twin tail. I’m fishing this on 20lb Seaguar fluorocarbon because a lot of these areas the water is fairly clear and on a sunny days you will find the bass right on the bank looking for crawfish.

    Crappie,
The crappie are doing fair and I look for them to start to kick in high gear this following week, with the warmer days and more important warmer nights the bite will get better. I am spider rigging in 15 to 10 foot of water and even shallower. The fish really want to go shallow. I have been getting Blacks on some of the shallower rocky banks by casting to them or fishing shallow cover in 6ft of water and less.

Learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
