  • Stump Fishing in the Spring

Every spring I wait for the first sign of the spawn and head to the stumps. If I could pick a time of the year that for me becomes fun for me and my clients; I must say that getting into the thick stump fields is it. The good news is there is many different ways to fish them.

We can go to my traditional Tight-Line Jigs work them in and over and around the stumps and catch fish. I like working a ¼ oz. worm color jig, something dark dropping them on the edges and into the hollow tops of the stumps and having a blast. Another option that will be new for me this year is the new Secret Weapon Lure Recoil Rig, this presentation should be deadly. Their recoil rig is set up like a drop shot on an elastic leader that should be deadly in the stumps. You shake it in and around the stump fields and look out, this presentation will aggravate and annoy any bass into hitting it and I can’t wait. By the way you can buy these online at www.secretweaponlures.com and get at a 30% discount on my case sensitive promo code FLGGS9, you can also buy any of their other products with this code.

Lastly it is a great time to fish a spinner bait in the stumps, if you like working a spinner bait, stump fields are ideal for this presentation. You can drop them in and around stumps, slow roll them, pause them at the edges and catch good fish. I prefer Punisher Spinner Baits for this technique, they are tough, won’t roll over and catch fish. I have a new color that I designed just for Lake Guntersville, it’s called Guntersville Royal Shad, yes it’s the traditional purple, gray and white skirt; I believe it will be deadly around stumps. My name is listed on the package, and I expect it to be a real winner. There are certainly other options, Secret Weapon Lures has great Spinner Baits also.
