TVA is still providing low water flows this week on the Holston River to fill Cherokee Reservoir. Surprisingly, the water temperatures are still holding at a great range between fifty-four and fifty-six degrees. The insect activity is very diverse. We are seeing Caddis, Sulphurs, BWO's, Cranes, Black Flies and various Midges hatch throughout the day. I have even found a few Stone Fly's in both nymphs and adults. With the warmer weather, we are seeing an increase in fishing pressure causing the fish to be more picky than they were at the beginning of the month. Most of the fish we landed were caught on a size sixteen Elk Hair Caddis in Pupae Green. The larger fish were taken on a size sixteen Flashback Pheasant Tail fished under an indicator. I am hoping that after Memorial Day we will begin to see some two generator flows. This will help keep the Trout poulation healthy throught the remainder of the year.
