  • Lake Guntersville Fishing Report - AL

It appears to me that the sport of fishing is reaching new highs in respect to the number of people fishing in the country; more boats, more fishermen and more fish being caught than ever before. I believe that we are headed to the fishing industry reaching markets we have never seen before that is worth billions to those who serve the industry.

The ideal tackle store today is trying to become unique with products others don’t carry, manufactures that might be hard to find and products that the other stores don’t have relationships with in one part of the country vs. maybe another are changing! Uniqueness surely has its benefits and those stores working toward this are benefiting over those who are not.

As the fishing world keeps turning in different directions I believe the people catching fish are also doing different presentations; the folks complaining they can’t catch fish are doing the same thing the same way but with different results than they are use too. They are struggling and only those who are willing to scout uncommon areas for fish and find different ways to catch them are being successful. What was once a common grass bed or a creek that always held fish is no more forcing us to find different ways and places to catch fish.

There are more guides than ever on all lakes throughout the country as the industry has become so expensive that one of the only ways for many to enjoy the sport is to hire a guide. The problem is that there is more jealousy and immaturity than ever before among many of the guides especially the newer generation; the day of one guide just going out doing his thing seems to be over. We seem to be buried in people who think because they may have won a big tournament or have a relationship with some pro-angler that they are entitled to be critical of others. No one wants to earn respect anymore they just feel entitled. It’s too bad that immaturity has reached such high levels! Oh well things will change again someday and maybe the next generation will have better leadership and understanding and not so self serving!
