  • Lake Lanier Fishing Report - GA

LAKE LANIER IS AT FULL POOL, THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR AND CREEKS ARE SLIGHTLY STAINED & 78 DEGREES

Bass fishing is fair. The post spawn fish are continuing to get more aggressive and the bite is improving each day. The main lake fish and continuing to move out deeper and are hanging around the brush in 20 to 25 feet deep or more. However, you can still find them up shallow early in the mornings at times. There are lots of fish getting in and around the brush in 20 to 25 feet, and they will eat. You can get them to come up for top water and swim baits very well. A Jig and a Shaky Head have been my second choice. Do not discount these baits. Every day is a process of figuring out how aggressive the fish are and how far they will come up. If the answer is not at all, then the jig and worm are good choices. Look for the top water bite to continue to improve as we move through June. I have the following dates left open for the month: June 24 (afternoon), 26(afternoon), 30. July is traditionally a good top water month and a great time to go spot tail minnow fishing which is great for kids and adults alike.

This Striper report is from Captain Ken West and Captain Mike Maddalena of Big Fish On Service 404 561 2564. www.bigfishonguide.com

Striper fishing remains very good. The primary pattern continues to be the creek mouth and main lake points. However, the fish have moved into deeper water due to the continued increase in water temperature and we are seeing an increase in the down rod bite versus weighted free lines. Weighted free lines and down rods over a 30 to 50 foot bottom is the primary technique. Herring set at 20 to 35 feet on down rods and free lines at 50 to 70 feet is your best bet. We pulled umbrella rigs this week fishing the same points we have been fishing with bait. The stripers are eating the "heavy" umbrella rig pulled 70 to 90 feet behind the boat at 3 miles per hour. The term "heavy" is used to describe a 3 ounce, 4 arm rig with 9 once ounce buck tail jigs. Both white and chartreuse trailers are working equally well. The key is to be aggressive and be prepared to get hung up in the trees and brush. Fish are being caught lake wide with points being the key. We keep thinking the North end will slow down but so far there continues a good North end bite.

Anglers have a new Bait Shop on Buford Dam Road at the Buford Dam Quick Stop at 2595 Buford Dam Road. Open daily from 6 to 6 they have Herring and other baits like shiners ready to go to the lake. Please call him at 706 867 5102 and say hello
