    The Overall Picture:

As of Monday, 23 June, the lake level is approx 3.5 inches above normal conservation pool and falling. There is decreased current of Little River with the gates releasing around 2,024 CFS as of Monday. Water temps were stable over the past week. Lake level has risen and dropped again dramatically with all the thunderstorms over the past week. Navigation is improving for Little River, as of Monday, but caution still urged with the debris, limbs, logs and broken vegetation in the river with the increased current.

Surface temps as of Monday, 23 June are ranging approx 70ºF early to 88ºF later in the day, depending on location.

Lake level as of Monday, is currently is 259.48 mfsl, with decreased river current, which is approx 3.5 inches above normal conservation pool. Normal consv. pool is 259.20 feet. Discharge rate as of Monday was 2,024 CFS. Continue to use caution during navigation on Little River and Millwood, watching for floating debris, floaters, and limbs from all the recent high wind and thunderstorms. Tailwater around 226.85 as of Monday

Clarity and visibility is improved compared to last week, most areas on main lake and Little River. As of Monday on main lake structure away from current, clarity & visibility ranges approx 10-12 inches. Cottonshed and northeast section of the lake improved somewhat to moderate stain. Little River's visibility ranges 8-10 inches depending on location and current. The oxbow's clarity currently ranging approx 20-30 inches depth of visibility depending on location. Little River above McGuire oxbow is muddy with lots of current. Clarity and visibility can change dramatically on Millwood in just a few hours with high winds, rain, or thunderstorms.

    The Details:

Largemouth Bass: Bass are good between to 2 and 4 pounds on topwaters early and late. Most bass are agressive at dawn around lily pads, cypress trees, and vegetation.

Buzz baits, Buzzn frogs, Spit'n Images, and Jitterbugs are drawing good strikes early and late. Buzz baits in ghost, black, or bleeding Bream colors are working around pads and vegetation adjacent to deeper sections of the creek channels. Finding clearer water areas away from current in Little River are best bites. Best colors of Buzzn Frogs are black or white. Good top water explosions continue on the plastic frogs this week around pads in clearest water you can find away from current in Little River.

Bass Assassin Shads in salt & pepper, and gold pepper shiner colors continue working around vegetation, and Bomber crank baits in Tenneessee Shad or Citrus Shad continue working around deeper drops into the creek channels. Magnum sized, 4" salty tubes in black/blue tail, or Ozark Craw colors continue working this week.

Lots of top water action continue this week away from current of Little River, and topwater Zara Spooks, Jitterbugs, Spit'n Images, kickin leg plastic frogs, and Buzz baits around pads and vegetation, early at dawn continue working at daylight.

Best Rat-L-Traps colors working this week were Fathead Minnow, Oxbow, and Blueberry Perch away from any remaining current. Back in the oxbows as far from river current and in the clearing water, around 5-10 feet depth flats and drops near creek channel swings, deflecting off stumps in the clearest water you can locate seem to produce best over the past week.

White Bass: Whites/hybrids continue roaming Little River and the oxbows, and continue hitting jigging spoons behind primary points in the river, just out of the current and on Tenneessee Shad Bomber crankbaits in the oxbows of McGuire and Mud Lake.

Crappie: Crappie improved this week and have been located back in their planted brush pile homes btween 8-12 feet deep in tops of trees/bushes. Live shiners, tube jigs in green or blue/white, and Blakemore Roadrunners were taking some nice slabs early this week.

Cats: Blues and channel cats continue biting good in the current in Little River over the past week on trot lines set slightly more shallow this week, approx 10-12 feet, in creek mouths and outer bends of the river. Best trotline baits over the past few days were Charlie, cut buffalo and shad, and blood bait dough balls on trot lines. YoYos were taking some 2-4 pound blues in Mud Lake oxbow up Little River using live shiners over the past couple weeks under cypress trees in 8-12 feet depths.
