Lake Cumberland fishing report for march 25 th, 2013. The water temp is getting close to 50 in the creeks and still in the upper 40's on the lower end of the lake. The water is slightly colored from the last rain we had.
Striper fishing has been good with fish being caught from the surface to 40 feet on planer boards with alewife herring. The alewifes have been very easy to catch making fishing a lot easier. A lot of days the fish are close to the bank early then more in the middle of the creek later in the morning. This is especially true on sunny days. I have been fishing mid creek to the head if the creek. I will start fishing mid creek out as soon as the water gets over 50 on the main lake.
The smallmouth have been slow with most people I talk to not catching many. In fact I have only caught a couple striper fishing this winter which is unusual. Smallmouth love alewifes in the winter.
The crappie fishing has been just fair on this end of the lake. A few have been caught 12 to 20 ft deep. Also I forgot to mention we have been catching several stripers casting buck tail jigs against the banks.
The river has been decent also with most fish.
The saugers have slowed down but the white bass has improved greatly. Seems like the next couple weeks there should be a strong run of white bass. The trout in the boils is a little slow so far with just a few browns being caught but that should improve.
Thanks and god bless
