Lake Cumberland fishing report for feb 14 th 2013. The water temp is in the upper 40 in most places. The recent rains brought the lake up over ten feet but they have been pulling it down at a steady rate. This has made for big water on the river which I like.
The saugers have been steady to good most days bouncing a small jig tipped with a minnow. Most people prefer bright colored jigs such as red, pink or chart. I use the lightest jig I can keep in contact with the bottom depending on current and wind. 1/4 ounce is most common size. The white bass have also been biting using same jig.
Crappie has been good most days fishing the mouth of feeder creeks coming into river with bobbers and minnows fished 5 to 10 feet deep. A few walleye have been caught but nothing regular that I have seen.
The small trout has been good on power bait but the big browns have not showed up in the boils yet.
The lake has been very good for stripers. Depending on the day they have been mid creek 10 to 35 feet deep. Alewife herring fished under planers and bobbers has been very productive. The recent rain has the water murky in part if the creek in this water a buck tail jig bounced on the bottom along flats is also productive. Unless Mother Nature really puts the chill on the rest of the winter should be excellent. The floating fly method has been working on main lake points do to some small thread fin shad dying because of cold water.
Good luck and god bless.
