It is definitely summertime in Miami. The temperature is on the rise and almost every afternoon we've been having thunderstorms.
This has us in a summertime fishing pattern. Fishing on or near the bottom and mid-depth will give you the best chance at having a successful day.
Art, Hong, Dave, and Horace had a great day of fishing before the late afternoon thunderstorms chased us off the water. We started with catching amberjacks and bonito. Then Art added a 21 pound 5 ounce black grouper. Total for the day was 9 amberjack caught (we kept 2 and released the others), 2 bonito, and the black grouper.
During the evening, the rains have cleared out and the fishing has been steady. On 2 separate trips, we've caught 2 tarpon and 1 permit on each trip.
On my most recent trip, we started the half day with catching live bait. A storm stayed well offshore of us so we could take advantage of the good fishing. All our action came in the 130 - 210 foot range fishing just off the bottom and mid-depth. Final tally on this trip was 3 amberjack and 2 kingfish.
