Fishing has been really good this week we have caught a few hundred bass, I’m fishing main lake ledges in the Paris area. I am catching fish at many depths. In the creeks and also the main lake ridges I am fishing 12 to 20 foot deep, a lot of fish are feeding in the deeper water. Just look for them on your Lowrance unit they are very visible. Also on the main river ledge there are a lot of fish feeding in 20 to 35 ft deep. I am not seeing as much of the fish moving up on the top of the ledge to feed. The bait in some of these areas is staying in the deeper water, so that’s where the bass are feeding. Catching fish all day and lots of them.
The baits that I’m using are a 6XD and 10 XD in shad patterns and the new color Bag5 Wasabi that David Frits helped designed.
I am casting a ¾ ounce Jig that I make in a Kentucky Lake craw color with a ZOOM Fat Albert twin tail in green pumpkin purple for the trailer. If I’m in open water where there isn’t much grass I will use the football head, and if I’m further up the lake where the grass is thicker then I’m using a grass jig that will not snag in the grass as I pull it down the ledge. (A lot of the tops of the ledges will have Hydrilla growing out to the drop, so by using the more weed less jig head design I can fish more effectively, where the football head will grab the grass the weed less jig will not making each cast more productive.)
Fishing the main lake grass is still productive also. I am fishing swim baits and Bag5 baits 2.5 in Green Gizzard or sexy Citrus. I am fishing the crankbait fairly fast trying to get it snagged in the grass and ripping it free, also a shad color Rat-L-Trap is catching fish, but the key is to let it snag the grass and rip it free. This bite is best early or on a heavy cloudy day. Then I am casting Zoom Ole Monster worms and jigs in the grass.
Recommended equipment: Deep crankbaits a 7’6” to 7’11” Shimano or G Loomis Crankbait rod with a Shimano reel spooled with 12 to 15lb Seaguar Flourocarbon.
Jigs: 7’5” to 7’7”shimano pitching rod, I like these rods when fishing jigs on ledges for the length and action, you want a rod that will take up line quickly on the hookset and still be stiff enough to set the hook, without being too stiff to fish and a Shimano reel spooled with 15lb Seaguar fluorocarbon, I prefer the AbrazX.

Ledge Fishing on the water class
The fish are on the ledges good and it’s a good time to learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
