    The lake is at 357.62
    Water Temp is 82

Fishing recently has been different on Kentucky Lake; I’m seeing a lot of bait migrating in towards the flats and grass beds. It’s a little early for that about three weeks early, but I say with the milder summer we’ve been having is the cause behind that. I am still fishing a few secondary ledges with jigs and worms and I’ve caught a few big fish on swim baits using Elite pro swim bait heads from ¾ to 1 ounce, these are available at the Cabin bait and tackle. I like a 5 inch hollow belly swimbait in shad patterns and I’m still using my custom jigs. The worms that have been best for me are the ZOOM Ole monster in watermelon and june bug shades.
I’m fishing the swim bait on a7ft 6 Cashion swimbait rod and the jig on a 7ft 3 jigs rod. I’m using 15lb seaguar on my jig and worm and 20lb on my swim bait. The top of my ledges are ranging from 7 to 10 foot and dropping off from 15 to 20 foot range. I’m doing better with a slower dragging retrieve with the jig and with the swim bait just a slow steady retrieve.

Another pattern that is turning on is the grass. I’m seeing a lot of bait migrating in the Hydrill and Milfoil as its really getting thick in some areas. I’m using my Lowrance HDS to idle over the flats looking for the grass and when I do I will mark it with a way point. Look for the area that’s holding the schools of shad this is the key to finding the schools of fish. I’m using a spinnerbait and swimbait on a 7ft rod and 20lb fluorocarbon. Also top water is working well. I like the Repo man and Gunfish the best on this lake. I will use a shorter rod when working these baits so I can keep the rod tip low and get the walking action I need to get these lures to produce for me. The Cashion 6’ 9” is the perfect rod.

Its won’t be long till these fish will start schooling up on the shad that’s migrating so make sure you have a Rat L trap ready for this. This time of year I like the ½ because it’s so close the size the shad are.

The Cabin bait and Tackle stocks Cashion Rods, these are super sensitive rods, the handle is made from a woven graphite material to give the ultimate sensitivity in a rod, almost all manufactures us graphite rods but then use a cork or foam rubber handle and that’s why I started using these rods. Ledge and Electronics Class, on the water!
Learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
