Looks like it’s finally going to warm up and be spring starting this weekend. Fishing has been good and I really look for both Bass and Crappie to really start feeding heavily with the warmer water temps that we will see this week.
I have been catching good Bass on both main lake flats and on the secondary channels leading back into the spawning flats. This week I really will focus on these secondary channels banks and flats leading into the bays. The shad should start moving up on these flats and the bass will follow them. Also on the main lake flats as well, a lot of these deeper water fish that guys have been catching on Alabama rigs will start moving up on the flats, our water is beginning to rise so the bass and shad will move up with the water.
Up closer to the New Johnsonville area, look for the bass and shad to move into the grass on main lake flats. Also right on the edge of the grass flats have been key areas especially where you know there are mussel beds.
My key bites are coming on a shallow running 2.5 Bag5 crank bait in green gizzard and our new color Sexy Citrus! A color that I have been working with Bag5 baits for a while now and we finally got the color to perfection.
A ¾ ounce Rat L Trap in 52 chartreuse shiner and 315 rootbeer. I am fishing the rootbeer trap on the gravel banks leading into the flats, but the key is to hop it like a jig. The chartreuse shiner I like on the flats and in the grass.
I am fishing both baits on 15 to 17 lb Seagaur abrazx fluorocarbon.
The 2.5 Sexy Citrus I’m fishing on 20lb test Seagaur abrazx fluorocarbon.
A spinnerbait bite and swimbait bite has also been good, the bass will be moving and feeding so keep looking, once you find them you can catch several good fish in a area.
In all of these areas I will also fish a jig, especially around any brush or wood that you will see. I’ve been fishing a ½ ounce jig with a ZOOM Fat Albert green pumpkin purple trailer.
Crappie
The crappie fishing has been slow the last few days due to weather but I really feel they will start feeding heavily this weekend as well. Fish are scattered you can catch them out on the creek channels spider rigging or up on the flats. Also you can cast around some of the brush piles and crappie beds up on the flats. I have caught fish suspended over 25ft of water with the fish staging in about 15-12 foot depths. I have also caught some good Blacks moving into the flats in 6 to 8ft of water. Natural shad and chartreuse and pink combos have been the best for me.

Ledge Fishing on the water class
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
