I REALLY DON’T HAVE MUCH TO CHANGE HERE, MAINLY BECAUSE THE WEATHER HASN’T CHANGED MUCH, ALTHOUGH LOOKS LIKE ITS GOING TO WARM UP SOME THIS WEEK. SO I WILL BE STILL FISHING THE SAME PRE SPAWN AREAS.
CRAPPIE I LOOK FOR THEM TO PICK UP WITH THIS WARMER WEEK FORCASTED.
The weather seems to be keeping the bass in the same areas. There are several patterns going on right now. The two strongest for me are main lake drops/flats and the channel banks leading back into spawning flats.
On the main lake flats look for bait fish, and also bass. A good Lowrance unit is a must when fishing these offshore areas. I am seeing the bait and fish before I ever make a cast. The baits that are working best are spinnerbaits, Alabama rigs, crankbaits and a jig. The fish seem to be feeding in the 9 to 5 ft zone on these flats with my boat sitting in 20 to 30 foot of water.
The creek fish are holding still in the same areas, some fish are wanting to move back staging in the 7 to 12 foot range on chunk rock channel banks. When we get a few days of sun these fish are even moving really shallow back on the flats you can see shad present in these areas. I’m fishing a spinnerbait, jig, Rat L Trap and swim bait.
Seems like a white spinnerbait is working best early then late morning the Rat L Trap and swim bait is what the bass prefer.
Im fishing the crankbait on 12lb test Seaguar and the swim bait, Rat L Trap and spinnerbait on 17 to 20 lb test Seaguar AbrazX Fluorocarbon.
Crappie
The Crappie bite has really picked up. Although its still a day to day thing. It wont be long till they really kick in. Ive been catching them spider rigging 10 to 20 ft out on the ledges, and also a few fish are moving into the flats, I guess they are hopping it warms up soon like me!
Not catching big numbers myself, but some good ones. Chartreuse/pink and shad colors as the water is clearing, has been the best color for me in Big Sandy area, I’m also tipping the tube with a minnow.

Ledge Fishing on the water class
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at

I want to give a special thanks to Jet A Marine for helping me out with my Boat this week, Thanks to them I was able to stay on the water and didn’t have to cancel any of my guide trips, so many of these guys book a trip and I know it may be the only time off they have to make it to Kentucky lake, so I’m thankful for their quick response!
