  • Miami Fishing Report - FL

Dolphin (mahi-mahi) fishing has been the way to go as the action in on the reef has been slow to a struggle. The dolphin for the most part are being found a bit further offshore, so plan on burning some fuel in your search for them.

The Rosenberg Family took advantage of the dolphin action on their half day trip. We found plenty of thin weed lines and big patches of Sargasso weed between the 54 - 50 lines. We had to work hard to find the fish, however our persistence paid off. We had 3 different small groups of fish come up. We caught a dozen fish of which we were able to keep 7. This was a perfect number for fish dinner for the family while they're here for a final vacation before school starts.

The Bails Family (Steve, Denise, and Niki) also caught their share of dolphin on their half day trip. We had to really do some searching and found the fish 24.9 miles out in the middle of no where under 2 birds. Niki caught here first dolphin and then added several more. Denise only wanted to watch and take pictures until I put a rod in here hand and she felt the dolphin pull and jump. She then added several more fish. Steve was having a blast catching fish and taking pictures. By the time the school moved on, we had caught 12 fish and only had to release 1. On the way in, we found more birds working over another school in the open water (no weeds or structure) and added 1 more dolphin to our catch. Plenty of dolphin dinners for this Family who love eating fresh fish.

Not only are dolphin fun to catch, they are also excellent table fare. To see a school of several to 50 or more of the colorful fish swimming around the boat is a beautiful sight. If you want to get in on the action, give me a call, 305-965-9454 or email me nkostyo@bellsouth.net to arrange your trip.
