The lake is at 357.14
Water Temp is 82
Its near the end of summer and the shad have started migrating towards the shallows and grass beds. This usually will have the fish scattered thru the end of August but don’t let this get you discouraged as it’s harder to keep locating the bass in the same areas. Water temps will start cooling soon and the bite will get better and more reliable. I will look for grassbeds this time of year. The Grass will give the bass a place to hide and wait for the bait to come to them, without the grass the bass have to chase down the shad. That can be very difficult and frustrating.
Right now most of the better fish I’m catching are in the grass on main lake flats. Im fishing Rat-L Traps in the deeper grass ½ ounce Blue Shiner and a custom painted Blue Glimmer by Bag5 baits.com, one thing I will do is alternate my traps when fishing the same areas often, I will use the original Trap and maybe the next day I will use a Stealth Trap or a Knocker Rat-L-Trap. This keeps the fish from getting to use to the same sound but you need the Trap to catch these fish because of the way you can fish it like no other bait, by ripping it thru the tops of the grass. When ripping it free from the grass an angler will need a rod that will allow this. I like a med Heavy to a medium 7ft to 7ft 3 inch Cashion Rod spooled 14lb Seaguar AbrazX and a high speed Lews real. You have to have a rod stiff enough to rip the bait, if it’s not then the grass will slow the bait down and you will miss out on a reaction bite even if the fish isn’t in a feeding mode.
I’m catching some fish on top water and a ZOOM fluke, when the water cools off it will help this bite. The top water bite is best early or on cloudy days of course. If you can’t get the bass to come up out of the grass try flipping a ZOOM Tube or Z Hog.

Ledge and Electronics Class, on the water!
Learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
