LAKE OCONEE IS FULL, LOW 80’S DEGREES

Bass fishing is good. The lake is full, stained up the rivers clear on rest of lake. The water temperature is 72 to 77degrees. Start at the mouth of the large coves and creeks. A white buzz bait worked along the sea walls and around the docks is a great way to start your day. Then work the deeper docks with a large crank bait. Contact as many of the dock poles as you can. When the crank bait hits the dock pole stop the bait and count the three. You can also use a shaky head with a dark green 6 in. worm. Work the shaky head as far back under the dock as you can. A good alternative is to use a Carolina rig on the lower lake humps. When Georgia Power is pulling water the hump bite has been better.

Striper fishing is fair to good. Some fish are showing up in the river been area of the lake. Live shad fished down to the schools will draw a strike. Use your Lowrance to locate the large school of bait. The stripers will be close by. As the water cools the fishing will improve.

Crappie fishing is good to very good. The fish are staging in the tree tops from 5 to 20 feet deep. Use your Lowrance to locate the schools and then drop a live minnow down to the school. Most of the fish are coming from Sugar Creek to the dam. Fall is a great time to take a child fishing, the weather is great and the fish are ready to feed. Grab your rods and some bait and a child and head to the lake for some great fishing.

Make sure you stop by Sugar Creek Marina and pick up your spoons and all your tackle needs. You can also book your crappie and striper trips with Reel Time Service at 404 803 0741 or reeltime@bellsouth.net. Learn how to use the Lowrance technology with Ken Sturdivant.
