    The lake is at 355.26
    Water Temp is 70

The later part of October is now here and is a great time to be fishing Kentucky Lake. Whenever I fish here in the fall I will always do one thing and that is to keep my Nitro in shallow water. The bait will be in the grass and on flats and so will the bass. I like to have shallow grass with deeper water nearby. The bigger fish will use the ditches and shallow ridges next to the grass flats. There will be mated grass in these areas but the mats are only there because of the 5 foot drop we get at winter pool. So the mats are just basically compressed grass which is too thick to hold fish. I will fish the grass patches leading out from the grass mat.

My Nitro will usually be in 5 to 8 foot of water casting into 10 to 4 foot of water.
When fishing this type of cover your lure choices are limited. Kentucky Lake is an awesome top water lake so I will usually start out with that. A Zara spook or Gunfish are my first two choices. A buzzbait and spinnerbait will be also tied to my rods. If I’m seeing the bait outside the edge of the grassline closer to the main river channel I will fish a swimbait and Rat L Trap.

The spinnerbait, buzzbait, Rat L Trap, and swimbait I will use a 7ft Cashion rod with a Lews reel. And the gunfish or Zara Spook I will use a 6ft 9” rod.

Note- The grass is good from the Danville area all the way past New Johnsonville.

Ledge and Electronics Class, on the water!
Learn and get confidence by catching fish on the ledges
If you’re new to Kentucky Lake or just haven’t been able to figure out how to fish the hundreds of miles of ledges that it has to offer. Then this class is for you. Fishing the ledges is something a lot of anglers struggle with. Understanding what ledges hold fish, when they hold fish and why they hold fish is something I can teach you. I will help you eliminate 90% of the lake in a short time. See what type of areas hold fish and how to find the bait.
Get on schools of fish and get them fired up! This is some of my favorite techniques on this amazing lake. Just give me a call or email me at
