  • Lake Cumberland Fishing Report - KY

Lake Cumberland fishing report for oct 21, 2014. The water temp has fallen to about 70 and normal fall patterns are in full swing. Crappie this summer and early fall has been above normal with great numbers of quality sized fish being caught. Some are still being caught under lights but several are being caught in the major creeks close to cover from 10 to 20 ft deep. As the water cools they will be even shallower. Minnows and jigs fished close to cover is your best bet. Even bobbers can be a very effective technique for shallow crappie.
The stripers are schooling heavy on the main lake and also the first major charge up the creek is taking place. On calm mornings good jumps have been seen on the main lake. I have been pulling alewife herring on planer boards from 15 to 70 feet. This is a wide range because the water will soon be the same temperature from top to bottom basically. I go out each morning with a plan but I let the graph and water conditions dictate how deep I put my rods. And sometimes I just have to experiment and repeat which depths produces fish. The fish moving up the creeks are really unpredictable do to them moving so much. One day it seems like there are 1000's other days it's like a ghost town. I tropically stay on main lake til first of November.

I also start bottom fishing for stripers and assorted fish in the fall. If bait is easy and you can catch a 100 plus shad you can fish main lake flats with super action. The action will be stripers, smallmouth, and catfish with a assorted walleye an drum. I do this especially when it's windy due to boat control. Hope to see you on the water soon enjoying a beautiful fall day. The leaves are going to be great this year. God bless!!
