  • Miami - Saltwater Fishing Report - FL

South Florida's fishing continues to get more interesting every day. Our weather conditions keep cooling down and we are seeing big pushes of baitfish move along our beaches and into North and South Bay. Offshore big schools of bait are sliding south as well. For some time the mullet schools that have moved into the bay s through the ocean inlets have attracted a lot of attention from medium to large tarpon, a few snook and big jacks. The mullet schools have settled into our bays as well and some large groups of pilchards, threadfin herring and glass minnows are scattered all over the bays. We have not seen the big push of Spanish mackerel as of yet but there are some in our area as I write. Offshore kingfish, Spanish mackerel, dolphins, a few sailfish, bonitos, a few wahoo and blackfin tuna are feeding on large schools of baitfish. At times the beiger predators have been blasting the baitfish schools and ignoring our offerings but when they decide to eat our live baits or artificial lures its time to hold on and enjoy the fight. Snapper and grouper, jacks and blue runners, porgies and a few bluefish are returning to the Finger Channels in South Bay.

Fishing offshore last week we had 0 luck with the dolphins but others did catch some. We did enjoy some hot action from jack crevalles to 16 pounds, kingfish, horseye jacks and mutton snappers.

In Biscayne Bay my clients had nonstop action from jacks, ladyfish, bluefish and had tarpon roiling all around us but would not eat for us. We had catches of dozens of sea trout to 4.2 pounds plus a few snappers, jacks and barracudas and a shark. We have also had a few snook that we released to 8.5 pounds.
I have not fished South Bay as of yet but will in the next few days.
Flamingo continues to provide action from snook, redfish, tarpon, sharks, ladyfish, jacks, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, snappers and a few cobias.

    South Florida Fishing Forecast:
Fall is here and the fishing in South Florida is about to explode. As more and more baitfish schools push into our waters more and more predators will be following and feeding on these baitfish giving my clients plenty of opportunities at some great catches. I look for snook, tarpon, mackerel, large jack crevalles, large ladyfish, snappers, groupers, sea trout, barracudas and more to feeding from sunrise to sunset in North Bay. South Bay will see plenty of action from snapper and groupers as well as mackerel, bluefish and pompano. Offshore we will see kingfish and Spanish mackerel, bonitos, sailfish, dolphins and blackfin tuna feeding right alongside each other. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park we will see the return of all of the migratory birds as they fill the park and make unbelievable sunrise pictures. Fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, blackdrum, snapper, sea trout, jacks ladyfish, sharks, tripletail, cobia and more will be as e exciting light tackle fishing as one could wish for.
