  • I've enjoyed the outdoors and fishing for as long as I can remember. It was a way of life and still is to this day. Now I run my own guide business and fish tournaments across the country. If your looking for a good, laid back, fun time on the water or some serious learning give me a call or drop me an email. I fish Kentucky and Barkley Lake along with winter trips on Lake Okeechobee.

  • Barkley and Kentucky Lake

Lake Conditions: Both lakes are very close to their winter pool levels of 354 with both of them sitting at 354.10. The TVA has been pulling 53,000-54,000cfs through the KY Dam while Barkley has stayed steady at 17,200cfs. Water temps are running in the low 60's to upper 50's with good water color has been good on both lakes.

Weather: The weather has been all over the board this week with some bitter cold and windy conditions over the weekend changing into some very nice days during the week. The week ahead is looking good with dry air and cool temps with highs running in the mid 50's with a cold front pushing through Tuesday dipping highs into the 40's but plenty of sunshine to go around.

Bass Fishing: Feast or famine has been the rule the past few weeks with a different pattern working week to week. We've seen the topwater slow but the lipless crankbait bite pick up some along with the jig bite. With the water temps dropping off as they have the past week more and more shad are moving to the backs of the bays. Covering water fast with a lipless bait like a SPRO Aruku shad or small spinnerbait have been baits of choice while chasing the fish chasing shad in the backs of the bays. Our better fish have come on Outkast Tackle football jig this week while keying on lead in banks in the bays. Just as the spring fish use the creek channels to migrate to the backs of the bays and will hold on these steeper banks were the creek channel swings against it.

Crappie:It has been a hit or miss bite so far this fall. Most of our fish have come out of 12-18' of water while vertical jigging minnows tipped on a jig and others on a double hook rig. Jig color has seemed to make much of difference overall as we've caught them on a little bit of everything.

    White/Yellow Bass:
We didn't specifically fish for them but have caught them readily while crappie fishing. These are not the large fish you normally find in the jumps in the summer but are a tasty meal and have been much easier to catch at times than the crappies.

Be sure to stop by The Cabin Bait and Tackle for their holiday open house Saturday November 22nd and save huge on guns at $10 over cost and 15-20% store wide.

CALL NOW for the fall crappie season so you DO NOT get left on the dock. I have a some days open yet here in November.

Starting in December I will be guiding down on Lake Okeechobee in FL so when your tired of the long winter weather give me a call for a chance at a fish of a life and enjoy some warm weather and sunshine.
