  • I've enjoyed the outdoors and fishing for as long as I can remember. It was a way of life and still is to this day. Now I run my own guide business and fish tournaments across the country. If your looking for a good, laid back, fun time on the water or some serious learning give me a call or drop me an email. I fish Kentucky and Barkley Lake along with winter trips on Lake Okeechobee.

  • Barkley and Kentucky Lake

Lake Conditions: Both lakes are very close to being back to their winter pool levels of 354 after jumping up 1.5 feet over the weekend and now sit at 354.50. The TVA has been spilling 79,000cfs most of the week and has now fallen back to 58,000cfs through the KY Dam while Barkley has stayed steady at 25,200cfs. Water temps are running in the upper 50's with good water color on both lakes.

Weather: We went straight from fall to winter in one cold front that blew in on Tuesday afternoon. The chilly weather is looking to stick around most of the weekend and first part of next week with highs in the low 40's and upper 30's and lows in the upper teens. We should see a break late next week with highs climbing back towards the 50's. With plenty of sunshine it will feel warmer than the temps show.

Bass Fishing: With the water temps dropping off as they have the past week more and more shad are moving to the backs of the bays. Covering water fast with a lipless bait like a SPRO Aruku shad or small spinnerbait have been baits of choice while chasing the fish chasing shad in the backs of the bays. Our better fish have come on Outkast Tackle football jig this week while keying on lead in banks in the bays. Just as the spring fish use the creek channels to migrate to the backs of the bays and will hold on these steeper banks were the creek channel swings against it. With all the current in the lake we have been catching some fish again on the Umbrella rig. One with blades on it is key along with a medium size swimbait like Big Bite Baits cane thumper, 5'' BassTrix and zoom swimmin flukes.

Crappie:Feast or famine seems to be the story of the fall crappie season so far. We are catching a good mix of keepers and nonkeeper than we have in a while and this is a good thing for the future. Ya it's great to be catching only keepers but you need a good mix or there's no future fishing coming. Most of our fish this week again come out of 12-18' of water while vertical jigging minnows tipped on a jig and others on a double hook rig. Jig color has seemed to make much of difference overall as we've caught them on a little bit of everything.

White/Yellow Bass: Again this week we didn't specifically fish for them but have caught them readily while crappie fishing. These are not the large fish you normally find in the jumps in the summer but are a tasty meal and have been much easier to catch at times than the crappies.

Be sure to stop by The Cabin Bait and Tackle for their holiday open house Saturday November 22nd and save huge on guns at $10 over cost and 15-20% store wide. Call them for details at 270-388-6440

CALL NOW for the fall crappie season so you DO NOT get left on the dock. I have a some days open yet here in November.

Starting in December I will be guiding down on Lake Okeechobee in FL so when your tired of the long winter weather give me a call for a chance at a fish of a life and enjoy some warm weather and sunshine.
