Great Offshore Fish Smiles Times Two!

Captain Deidra Helmey Jeffcoat of Miss Judy Charters is holding a little tunny and Taylor Southwell are having some real time fish catching fun! What are little tunny known best for doing for their size and weight? Well, this is one fish that is a very strong puller and lots of fun to catch!

    Spotted Sea Trout

    Inshore Fishing!
Spotted sea trout, red fish, flounder, and whiting bite!

It could be cold and it could be hot! And I am not just talking about the weather either! During this time of the year especially on the coast of Savannah, when it comes to fishing equaling catching a lot has to come into play. Since I mentioned weather earlier, let’s start with that either good or bad problem for your particular fish day. On your fish day if it happens to be cold, well, that is not so bad, unless the wind are howling. So I suggest if it is just cold and the sun is shining that you still consider going, because the fish are going to take the same chance that you are when it come to feeding. If the winds are also blowing and it is the absolute only day you have to fish, bundle up and make it happen. There are fish out there that feel the exact same way that you do.

During the months of November and December there is lots of uncertainty taking place down under. All fish have to deal with their possible migrations and also those of the bait fish, which boils down to limited food source. Some fish turn to those creatures wrapped in shells while others find a comfortable spot to borrow down. Now you don’t need to bother yourself with the technical stuff if you don’t want too, if not just go fish! Best bait is the live stuff such as shrimp, mud minnows, and finger mullet! After you get the bite going I suggest switching to some sort of shrimp or mullet artificial shrimp or mullet patterns.

    The Sheepshead Bite!

    Offshore

Yes you can catch Sheepshead offshore at the artificial reefs! Whatever you don’t forget your dip net!

Inshore Sheepshead bite! Where to look?

Look for clearing spots like the one on this concrete piling. A fisherman has either knocked off a few barnacles/oysters or/and the old Sheepshead has been feeding up a storm!
Best places to look for Sheepshead feeding locations is concrete/wood pilings, rocks, wrecks, bridge uprights, and anything that supports any sort of a vertical feeding.

Secret Bait for Sheepshead inshore or offshore!

Fiddler with claw on the hook…works very good adds just enough extra scent
There have been plenty of good inshore catching reports in regards to the old Sheepshead bite. The Sheepshead is also called by us old timers as a convict fish. They got this name because of the vertical dark bar markings and their ability to steal your bait so fast you won’t feel a thing. I know you must be thinking all fish can do that and this is so true. However, the Sheepshead also known as the convict fish can **** the insides out of a fiddler fast while leaving only the empty shell on your hook. I always tell my customers to make sure the fiddler that they are looking at is a complete one and not just an empty shell!
    Big Bull Red Fish Attack!

Say what you want, but old school is the tool!

If you have been following my fishing reports you already know about my famous trolling rig! Well, there have been some additions and now it could be called, “A three one” type of lure!

Captain Deidra Helmey Jeffcoat Came Up With A Great Catching Idea!

Captain Deidra Helmey Jeffcoat came up with an idea and it was a good one. We are now also turning my father’s famous trout trolling float rig into a jigging float. I know this sound crazy, but Captain Deidra suggested that I add a 3 ounce egg sinker to the 8 inch trolling trout float rig. As you can see from photo above that its location is normally where you would put your stop bead. Here’s how it works: Once placed into the water the 3 ounce egg sinker takes the float under causing the float to be upside down placing (what was the) trailing hook on top of float. As you can see the big bull red fish took a few crushing swaps at the trout cork before finally getting hooked up. However, the bottom line is this: The newly designed Captain Deidra jigging trout float is now in full time service! Once again this is one of those rig designs that most fishermen will never admit to using that’s unless it works.

Many years ago I spoke at a local fishing club and I pulled my father’s my trolling float rig out. To say the least I got some pretty interesting. but mostly odd looks. However, about three years later I ran into one of the blue water fishermen that attended the meeting and here’s exactly what he said, “I truly wish I had brought more corks!” According to his report he had tried it while trolling at the stream and it wasn’t in the water but a few minutes before the first dolphin jumped over it and the next crashed it. After that assault the trout float was broke in half and no longer made for a suitable trolling lure. He reloaded another and the same thing happen. With only one cork left he already knew what was going to happen and it did. The best news was while pulling the floats even though they got destroyed it brought attention to the trolling spread, which in turn produced hook ups. The bottom line to this report” My father famous trolling rig is now also, thanks to Captain Deidra “A great jigging rig.” And not mentioning any names on the blue water report, but it can also be a pretty darn good teaser, too! So therefore my father’s famous float is now a three in one! I know my father would be so proud!!
