  • I've enjoyed the outdoors and fishing for as long as I can remember. It was a way of life and still is to this day. Now I run my own guide business and fish tournaments across the country. If your looking for a good, laid back, fun time on the water or some serious learning give me a call or drop me an email. I fish Kentucky and Barkley Lake along with winter trips on Lake Okeechobee.

  • Barkley and Kentucky Lake

Everyone this will be my last report for Kentucky and Barkley lakes. I will be heading to FL next week and guiding on Lake Okeechobee for the winter.

    Lake Conditions:
Both lakes are roughly a foot and a half over winter pool sitting at 355.50. The TVA has been stopped spilling is running 72,300cfs through the KY Dam while Barkley has stayed steady at 25,400cfs. Water temps are running in the mid 40's with good water color on both lakes.

    Weather:
Its' been a rollercoaster of weather the past couple of weeks. We've enjoyed a couple nice day then a the wind blows followed by a few days of rain. We are finally looking towards a good week of nice weather coming next week with sun and warmer temps with highs in the mid to upper 50's.

Bass Fishing: We did manage to get out a couple days during good weather breaks. Our bite was pretty simple fishing two different patterns. One was working main lake points and the first secondary points going into a creek or bay with jerkbaits. Our other pattern was fishing shakey heads along bluff banks in the bays and creek. For jerkbaits we caught most of our fish on the SPRO McStick 110 in Blue Bandit. For shakey heads we paired the Outkast Tackle shakedown jig with a Big Bite Baits squirrel tail worm in green pumpkin and tilapia colors.

Crappie:This has definitely picked up. We starting to see more numbers but still lots of small fish which is good as we see a good future ahead of us. There are still plenty of keeper size fish out there though and most of them we've caught between 12-18 feet of water vertical jigging over brush or stake beds. If you get a couple sunny days in a row you can catch some fish shallow as they come up to enjoy the warmth of the sun.

White/Yellow Bass: We haven't targeted these but are still catching plenty while crappie fishing and are seeing plenty schools of them chasing bait fish in the same areas our crappie cover is.

The Cabin Bait and Tackle is running a store wide 20% sale till the end of December. Be sure to stop by and save big on your favorite baits, rods and reels.

Starting in December I will be guiding down on Lake Okeechobee in FL so when your tired of the long winter weather give me a call for a chance at a fish of a life and enjoy some warm weather and sunshine.
