  • Richland Chambers Fishing Report - TX

December is one of my FAVORITE MONTHS to fish on RC for several reasons! First, there's hardly anyone else fishing on a huge 45,000 acre Lake and that means no crowds at the boat ramp, the ability to fish anywhere you want, and it's about as pleasant and peaceful time of the year as you'll ever experience. Second, the amount of wildlife you'll see is phenomenal as there's Ducks, Geese, Pelicans, Gulls, Loons, Ospreys, Commorants, and it's not uncommon to see an Eagle or two. If you can keep from Bird Watching, you'll sometimes spot a Deer or maybe even a Hog on the shoreline! And third and most important is the fishing action you'll incur in the Fall and Winter. While the White Bass get difficult to find, the Catfish make up for their absence! There's Quantity and Quality in that we often catch a box full of "Eater Size" Blues and Channels and almost always a "Slot" fish which is a Blue Cat measuring between 30" and 45". These "Slot" fish are returned to the Lake, but before doing so we get a picture for the Customer and the fish is often the LARGEST FISH they have ever caught and weighs in excess of 40 lbs. or more!

Last Wednesday and Thursday was a great example of Quantity and Quality as regular Customers Max and Martha Weidner & Friends from Brenham joined me for their annual Winter Trip. (See Picture) Max was celebrating his 83rd Birthday and he did so in Grand Style by catching a 40 lb. plus Blue Cat!!! I'm not sure how many fish we caught in two mornings, but I cleaned 126 Catfish and we also had 2 Slot Fish we caught and released. The action was almost non-stop for the two days as the conditions were great with a nice Cloudcover, Temps in the 60's and a light South Breeze. All fish were caught in the Timber on the Richland Arm of the Lake on Danny King's Punch Bait.

Action like that described above is common all Winter long. It's easy for Adults and Kiddos to catch fish as the fish are often very aggressive. Adam and I have plenty of Weekday openings and even a Saturday or two with a boat open in December. Give us a call and Let's Go Catchin'!
