Fishing statement: To try to insure that fishing stays in the hearts that love it and to help the ones that are going too!

It was a Helmey-Jeffcoat-Howell family fishing affair!

The spotted sea trout biteFor those inshore fishermen that want to go fishing and catch fish now is the time. The spotted sea trout bite has been very good. Now I must add there will be some catching, releasing, and keeping involved. On some fish days most of all of the spotted sea trout are of keeping size, which is 13 inches tail length. However, there have been times where it is a 50/50 kind of a day, but the way I look at is no matter what you are catching lots of fish. And this way you get to practice on some while keeping others! The best bait is going to be live shrimp. However, mud minnows will work, but not as well as live shrimp. Now once you get the bite a going you can switch from the live stuff to the artificial shrimp patterns. And I will admit that those artificial baits that have scent embedded do work and if they don’t heck, it couldn’t hurt to add a little sauce! After all any scent is better than none!

Meet the Sesco Lighting Fishing Team

While fishing with Captain Matt Williams Keith Rose, Thomas Nichols, and Robbie Sapp caught quite a few spotted sea trout. Lots of action for sure!!!

This is another one of those fishing cases where they caught, fought, released plenty, and kept a few!

    Cold Water Reds
It’s time to be a red fish tail watcher!”
Although most of us on the coast will argue with you, it is wintertime and the water is on the cold side. With most of us down here still wearing shorts it’s hard for us to make this statement. However, the water is cold and the reds are on the move. And why are they, well, it’s their time to make cold water moves. With bait not as available as it is in the spring, summer, and fall the old red fish has to look, dig, root, and show us their tails. You know the old saying heads down tails up, well, when a red fish roots on the bottom its tail goes up. And sometimes this is how you know that they are there in the first place. With this being said, “It’s time to be a cold water red fish tail watcher!”

The cold water red fish spooks easily!

As far as best baits for the old red fish I suggest live shrimp rigged naked or under small adjustable float. This is the time when targeting this fish that you make as quiet of an approach to the fishing spot as possible. This means the lighter the bait rig used the better, the quieter you place the anchor the better, and the less you stomp around on the boat the better! The reason being is now you know that the red fish spooks easily!
Best baits can be just about anything from live shrimp to mud minnow to worked flukes worked with a slow to go twitch. During this time this fish takes it’s time because the cold water temperatures have put them in slow to go motion.

Bret Bolz with nice black sea bass and Doug McCall dressed in his camouflage Santa hat having some fun!

It is my opinion that Cory Dunn caught the most keeper black sea and he did so repeatedly!

Bryan Stusak is holding a nice black sea bass. As you can see his bait was a small piece of cut fish!
