LAKE LANIER IS UP .73 FEET, THE MAIN LAKE IS CLEAR AND THE CREEKS ARE SLIGHTLY STAINED AND & 81 DEGREES
Bass fishing is excellent. The top water and swim bait bite has continually improved and we have had some banner days on top this past week. We have been starting our mornings, however, in the backs of creeks. There has been a good bite back in some creeks and main lake pockets first thing in the morning. A popper or a prop bait can be a good choice for these fish. Look for the fish to be SHALLOW. Once the sun gets up, the top water bite has been great over the brush in the 20 to 30 feet range on both points and humps. A Chug Bug and a Sworming Hornet Bite Size Herring Swim bait have been best. When you cannot get the fish to come up, go down to them with a Fish Head Spin, a Dude or the weighted fluke. The fishing is awesome on the top water and swim baits at every stop. Next week I have July 11 and 12 available. Call me to book an exciting top water and swim bait trip. Call Ken Sturdivant about the ON THE WATER SCHOOLS for Sonar or the Rods, Reels and Lures for Bass or a full day STRIPERS School. Call 770 889 2654 for details.

Striper fishing is very good. The lake is in the mid 80's and the fish are moving south. There are still a few fish related to points over a 40 to 60 foot bottom but most have moved into main lake and creek mouth pockets. Use your Lowrance Structure Scan and graph pockets back to a depth of 30 feet. When you find fish drop down rods to them and hold on. We recommend 6 to 7 foot 12 pound test Seaguar fluorocarbon leader tied to a main line which is 20 pound Seaguar fluorocarbon line with a swivel and a two ounce slip weight. Also, be sure and change to fresh herring every 15 to 20 minutes. Lively bait is critical when fishing down rods during the summer months. Keep an eye on the Lowrance all day and even one or two fish on the screen can unlock a school. There are fish moving on and off main lake points early. We have had some luck this week fishing down rods over a 40 to 60 foot bottom early. Pick a point give it 20 minutes. If no luck, move to another point. This technique has been working up until 9:30 in the morning. We are seeing more and more bait over the river channel and we would not be surprised to see a lead core bite on river and creek channel bends within the next couple of weeks. Umbrella rigs are working over a 40 to 50 foot bottom. If you are working pockets and see a couple of fish, go ahead and drop some bait down. You will not always find big schools. Chestatee Bay, Vann’s Tavern, Orr Creek and Four mile Creek, are good places to start.
