Fishing statement: To try to insure that fishing stays in the hearts that love it and to help the ones that are going too!

    Editor’s Year End Note!

Captain Judy Helmey “Kicking Fish Tail Since 1956!”

    Dear Readers,

I do appreciate everyone reading my weekly fishing reports! And I hope that you all will continue doing so. I have been writing this report for way over 20 years and boy, how time goes by so quick. It seems like I blinked and 20 years just flew by! I hope to continue reporting on what’s biting, what’s the best bait to use, and what’s the best technique for catching these crazy allusive fish. And A big thanks goes out to those fishermen that send in their fishing reports. It is truly appreciated; I need them, and certainly can use them!

Please don’t forget about my inshore and offshore schools that are in February 21 and 22 and March 8 and 9, 2015. Thanks so much for supporting my schools. These schools are amazing, because I learn something from the fishermen just about every time I attend! So here’s a big thanks for that too!

Here’s wishing everyone a Happy New Year and we hope to see you out on the water! Captain Judy

Now for this week’s fishing report!

Here’s what I know about inshore fishing!

I can’t report exactly what we did the first of the week, because if I did, it would go like this, “I sat in the office and checked on the boats. The reason for this is it rained a whole lot! The best news is we can always use the rain, because as my father used to say, “It washes out the marsh, which in turn feeds the fish!” And you know what that means, “When fish eat they got to grow!”

When the rains stopped, which was Christmas day we went back to what we charter captains do the best and that’s go fishing!

    Saturday December 27, 2014
Captain Matt William fished and caught slot red fish and flounder.
Captain Alan Collins fished and caught spotted sea trout, red fish, and flounder.
According to both captains it was hard to find clear water due to the muddy conditions.

    Sunday December 28, 2014

Captain Matt Williams took Ed Haskell and his son Matt on a spotted sea trout catching affair.

Ed Haskell his son Matt and Captain Matt Williams show us the spotted sea trout catching way! These fish preferred live shrimp and as long as they were presented under traditional adjustable floats hits happened!

    Sunday December 28, 2014

Muddy water conditions subsided opening up some clear water catching opportunities.

Captain Alan fished took the fishing team of Kirk Beckett and Davey Juarez inshore fishing. This party caught red fish and spotted sea trout while using live shrimp as bait.

Davey Juarez and Kirk Beckett! Slot reds and spotted sea trout! What did they eat? “Live shrimp!”
All charter parties caught plenty and released many!

Right before the rains….On Friday December 19, 2014

Captain Kevin Rose took a fish man’s holiday with some of his friends!
It’s time to target trophy red fish!

    December 19, 2014 Friday
Captain Kevin Rose sends us a fishing report, which came straight from shallow water!
On Friday December 19, 2014 conditions were perfect for skinny water redfish, with no wind and a mid-day low tide the odds were in our favor. Drew McCullough invited Doug Kellogg and me to go for a ride in his super skinny flats boat. As we approached the first flat we found fish immediately and I missed the first strike, which was as light a tap as possible. Another boater came through and his motor scared all the fish off the flat so we picked up and went to greener pastures. Although we had seen plenty of fish here in previous weeks they were more scattered with cloudy conditions making it difficult to see into the gin clear water.

I enjoyed having no pressure to deliver fish for clients and managed to catch a few from my spot standing on the beverage cooler. Here are a couple shots Doug took of Drew and yours truly with some Redfish we caught and released.

    Inshore spotted sea trout bite

So far so good for the spotted sea trout bite. Since the water temperature has managed to stay in mid fifties all is good in regards to targeting the old spotted sea trout. As far as best baits, if you can get live shrimp, do so, if not mud minnows with also work. And also Gulps live baits will too! But I don’t know about you I always think to get the bite a going you might need a bit of the live bait! Call me old fashion!

Here’s what I know about offshore fishing!

    Artificial Reefs
I have customers calling all of the time especially during the holiday season asking, “Is there any sort of offshore fishing during this time of the year?
Bottom fishing for black sea bass and other biters is great!

Black fish also known as sea bass, knot heads, and green heads can be found in large numbers at the artificial reefs at this time of the year
