January weather has continued to be kind to us....at least on mostdays. We deal with the regular cold fronts, winds and rainy days on aregular basis, but we have been able to enjoy the fishing on the TreasureCoast. Windy days will find us fishing along the mangroves around theriver, while calmer days we will be hitting docks and grass flats aswell. Water temperatures have ranged in the mid to upper sixties recentlyand that will keep the fish feeding for us. It won't be long beforeSpring arrives!
Redfish, black drum and sheepshead have been the best bite again thisweek. Whether fishing mangroves, docks or structure, we have continued tobe successful each day on these species. DOA shrimp and live baits willfind some nice size fish this time of year. You can also find juvenilesnook and snapper around the mangroves. The best bite has been when thewater temps have ranged in the upper 60 degrees. Around the inlet andturning basin, look for mackerel, bluefish and a host of other species thismonth. Small shiny lures will work best in these areas. There areplenty of ladyfish and jacks for those who just want to bend a rod. Theyare a favorite of the kids in January. We have been getting some trout onthe grass flats on the warmer days on Deadly Combos. Most have been slotsize trout. Have fun this month and enjoy the fishing along the TreasureCoast!
Don, Art and Sherman were back again this month to enjoy a morning on theriver. The guys caught trout, snapper, black drum and sheepshead to makefor a fun day on the water. Bob, Jim and Thomas found lots of fishincluding black drum, sheepshead, jacks and ladyfish to name a few of the manyspecies they caught. Steve and Nick were back again this year for anotherfishing adventure. They caught redfish, drum, sheepshead and a nice pompanoto round out a nice, rewarding trip on the Indian River. Mark was downfor a visit and we got out on a cool morning. The water temperatures haddropped ten degrees in one day, so we scouted a good bit to find the fish, buthad a great time fishing!
We will have our ups and downs with the temperatures this month. Dressin layers to be comfortable in January. Keep your rain gear handy forrainy days. It's been a damp month so far and we will most likely seemore of the same weather conditions. Check the weather before you headout and be prepared to have some fun!
Remember, fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE!
