  • Miami Fishing Report - FL

Winter has set in on South Florida even though it still feels like Fall. Cold fronts have been sliding through South Florida dropping water temperatures into the low 70's and at times the upper 60's. Not cold enough to spark some of the hot fishing that I like, like the Spanish mackerel, bluefish, grouper and sea trout action I am used to treating my clients to in Biscayne Bay. But because of the warmer conditions we have had action from small tarpon and snook in the upper reaches of Oleta River, Maule Lake and Dumfoundling Bay. Most of this action has been with live baits but at times Rapala X Raps have gotten the job done. Jack crevalles of assorted sizes and barracudas have also been encountered in these areas. So far no redfish though.
The best fishing I have had recently has come from the waters of Florida Bay where I have launched my boat at the Flamingo Marina. Fishing in Florida Bay we have had very good action from tripletails, cobia to 27 pounds, black drum to 18 pounds, pompano to three pounds, permit, lots of sea trout, jacks, ladyfish and a fair amount of redfish and snook. On recent charters we saw juvenile Flamingo's and lots of roseate spoonbills, crocodiles, manatees and sea turtles.

In North Bay sea trout, a few Spanish mackerel, jacks, small groupers and barracudas have bent our fishing rods.

South Bay fishing has only been fair with some decent Spanish mackerel action at times, a few groupers, jacks, bluerunners and small snapper. In some areas have had great barracuda action and shots at sharks.

Fishing over the Patch Reefs could be good but the weather has kept me from fishing out there. When the weather has allowed me to fish the patches we have had steady action from Spanish mackerel, bluerunners and a few snapper and groupers.

    South Florida Fishing Forecast:
Fall is here and the fishing in South Florida is about to explode. As more and more baitfish schools push into our waters more and more predators will be following and feeding on these baitfish giving my clients plenty of opportunities at some great catches. I look for snook, tarpon, mackerel, large jack crevalles, large ladyfish, snappers, groupers, sea trout, barracudas and more to feeding from sunrise to sunset in North Bay. South Bay will see plenty of action from snapper and groupers as well as mackerel, bluefish and pompano. Offshore we will see kingfish and Spanish mackerel, bonitos, sailfish, dolphins and blackfin tuna feeding right alongside each other. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park we will see the return of all of the migratory birds as they fill the park and make unbelievable sunrise pictures. Fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, blackdrum, snapper, sea trout, jacks ladyfish, sharks, tripletail, cobia and more will be as e exciting light tackle fishing as one could wish for.
    Target Species:

Targeted Species SNOOK, TARPON, SHARK, REDFISH, SEA TROUT, MACKEREL, DOLPHINS, TUNA
