  • Lake Cumberland Fishing Report - KY

Lake Cumberland fishing report for feb 12,2015. The water temp on the lower end is about 46 degrees and clear. Fishing has been pretty good for most species on lake Cumberland. The stripers have been doing good but they are really deep. We have been catching fish on alewife herring 60 to 100 feet deep. When fish are this deep you have to move really slow and really pay attention to your rods. The fish are pretty sluggish down that deep. Once hooked the fight is on but if you don't pay close attention the fish will let go. Smallmouth have also been caught off rocky points on shad and shiners fished slowly either on bobbers or just free lining them. This technique also is slow and takes patience but can be very productive. Crappie fishing has remained steady with some fish being caught 40 feet deep around cover.

The only fishing that has been slower has been the river. With the lack of rain the corp has not generated a normal schedule. And this time of year the big fish are not moving up close to dam without big water. Very limited numbers of good trout have been caught close to the dam that I have seen. The sauger and walleye numbers are also down but all we need is some rain. When they start generating 24/7 the big fish will respond to the shad being pulled thru the generators. I can't wait because I love fishing down there. Some days it's like fishing the ocean you never know what species fish it will be. It's very common to catch 5 to 8 different species in a day. A tremendous and really untapped resource. Thanks and God Bless.
