Springhas arrived in South Florida and now is the time to get out on the water andhave some fun catching sea trout, snook, tarpon, jacks, mackerel, bluefish,snapper, grouper and ladyfish in the bay. Water temperatures are rising in thebay and our bay fish seem to be enjoying that. We have had some windy days andthat won't change until May but that should not be much of a problem seeingthere are many places in North Bay and a few in South Bay that have protectedwaters. Live bait fishing continues to produce fish and artificial lures likethe Rapala X Raps and Twitchin Rap and Hookup lures tipped with soft plasticscan be deadly.


Almostall of my recent charters have been in Flamingo but that will change now thatSouth Florida is warming up. My local trips will be seeing more and more actionright up to summer.


Offshorefishing for sailfish, dolphins, kingfish and blackfin tunas has been very goodrecently but the conditions have been choppy.


Flamingoin Everglades National Park has been decent and will only get better as watersin the Park start to warm up. Tarpon fishing has been excellent for those thatdon't mind putting in a lot of time for a few bites. These silver giants havebeen eating a variety of artificial lures plus pinfish, ladyfish and mullet. Werecently had a big tarpon swim within a few feet of the boat with its tail anddorsal fins clear out of the water. My clients cast to the tarpon's tail werenot appreciated by that fish. The next day with another group of fishermen wehad a tarpon eat a pinfish under a Cajun Thunder float. The battle lasted 15minutes before the leader gave way. The pinfish was intended for a large seatrout that were feeding in the same area. Snook fishing in the park has beenonly fair but that will change in a few weeks when the snook start theirspawning season. There have been redfish, snook, sharks, jacks, ladyfish,mackerel, tripletail and cobia available in the Park.


Waterlevels in the conservation areas of the Everglades continue to be high allowingthe largemouth bass to stay out in the shallow flats where they are hard to getto. Soon these bass will fill the canal systems as water levels drop and thebass fishing will be great. I have had a few interesting snook trips in theGlades where we have released up to 20 snook to 8 pounds on plugs.

Spring is here and the fishing in South Florida is about to explode. With water temperatures rising sea trout and snook will start their spawning seasons. Bigger fish and bigger numbers of fish! Spanish mackerel, bluefish and kingfish are heading north for the summer. As they pass the Miami area they always provide a months' worth of action. Big jack crevalles will be chasing baitfish schools in North Bay and big tarpon will be stealing baits intended for other fish. Offshore we will see kingfish and Spanish mackerel, bonitos, sailfish, dolphins and blackfin tuna feeding right alongside each other. In Flamingo in Everglades National Park we will see the return of all of the migratory birds as they fill the park and make unbelievable sunrise pictures. Fishing for snook, redfish, sheepshead, blackdrum, snapper, sea trout, jacks ladyfish, sharks, tripletail, cobia and more will be as e exciting light tackle fishing as one could wish for. When the freshwater levels drop in the Everglades Conservation areas the largemouth bass stack up in the canal systems providing 100 fish days.
