BASS
We are catching a lot of bass in the lake. As far as numbers, every trip has been a success. As far as big fish, we have caught a few. We have caught most of our fish shallow on hard baits and grubs. Red Eye Shad and white grubs have worked well in 2-5' of water. On deeper banks and bluffs Grubs and crankbaits have worked the best. Most of the fish we have caught have been on craw fish colored Series 3 crankbaits,
White bass
White bass have been running strong in the river. Strike King Series 3 crawfish colored crankbaits and white grubs have been all we needed to catch all the white bass we wanted. If you want to load up on a lot of fish now is the time to go fishing for white bass.
Stripers
Stripers are still hard to count on. I have caught a few on crankbaits and spoons. Most of the stripers we have caught so far have been on the smaller side and we are still not catching a large number yet. Over the next two weeks I expect striper fishing to pick up a lot.
Sauger
This has been a rough year for sauger and it does not look like its going to be any better in the next two weeks. The flood gates have been open at Pickwick Dam for days, until the river settles down for several day I would not count on a successful sauger fishing trip.
Catfish
Catfish are starting to move into shallow water areas like they do every year to spawn. I have caught them while fishing for other species. To catch these shallow catfish I usually fish with a live worm and float in 3-6' of water.
