  • Lake Okeechobee fishing report

Hello everyone Capt. Brian Brown with your March fishing report for Lake Okeechobee. Water level is sitting at 14.30 roughly 2' high of the 12.5 they would like to hit before the rainy season hits. So far March has been a huge month numbers wise. On both ends of the lake. Bass are coming on both live bait along with artificial baits this month. With the warming water temps we've seen the artificial bite really improve. Most fish are coming on two baits and most of the time worked in tandem. One being the tried and true stick worm like the Big Bites Baits trick sticks Texas rigged with a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG hook pegged with a Bag 5 Baits 3/16oz tungsten wgt. The other two baits are moving baits one being an Outkast Tackle pro swim jig paired with a speed craw. The option is a either a Big Bite Baits cane thumper or BB kicker swimbaits fished on a Gamakatsu weighted hook. We fished the swimbaits over vegetation while the stick worm was pitched into holes in the vegetation. As usual here on the Big O live bait weather golden wild shiner or domestic shiners is your best bet to catch a fish of a lifetime. Crappie is two fold as it was real strong earlier in the month with cooler water temps fishing in the grass but as water temps have rose dramatically spawning activity has lessoned and the majority of fish are schooling up in the main lake and being caught drifting.

    Tight Lines,
    Capt. Brian Brown
