Fishing statement: To try to insure that fishing stays in the hearts that love it and to help the ones that are going too

    Old School with new tools!

Back water candy might have just been added to the tackle shelves, but the design is old school! River Services in Thunderbolt Georgia is carrying this great spotted sea trout artificial soft screw tail bait! All you need now is to thread onto a ¼ ounce jig head and take it to you favorite inshore fishing hole!

    Inshore fishing Report

Here is where we are…….We are on the cusp of having it all especially when it comes inshore catching. This is that time of the year where a spotted sea trout a red fish and a flounder just might find your bait offering enticing. Fishermen now have an assortment of live baits to choose from. Most bait shops are now carrying live bait and I haven’t met a fish yet that will turn down this critter. The infamous hard to kill and easy to catch mud minnows has always been a great standby bait. For those fishermen that like to throw the old cast net the back of creeks are holding small finger mullet and pinfish.

When it comes to artificial baits I have an old school suggestion with a new flare. Back in the old days we didn’t have much to choose from when it came to artificial soft baits. There were screw tails and there were screw tails. I remember them always getting gummy when we left them out in the sun. My father used his empty King Edward cigar boxes as his personal non rusting tackle boxes. Come to think about it I never saw a screw tail melt and stick to the inside of a cigar box. At any rate, we had screw tails for artificial bait when we went inshore fishing for trout. Daddy used these baits to slow troll and to pitch with. If we were trolling as soon as he caught a spotted sea trout, we would turn back, situate the rowboat up current, anchor, and start pitching screw tails. And this is how we would catch fish! There is a new screw tail on the market. It is made by Blue Water Candy and it is called Back Water Candy BWC Enterprises Hampstead, NC 1 910 270 3718. It comes in assorted old school colors. I suggest when you find them to purchase a bag of each. River Services located in Thunderbolt, Georgia is carrying them. Their number is 912 354 7777.

    Sheepshead Bite

Captain Deidra Jeffcoat Helmey and Captain Triple Trouble Steve Howell taking a busman’s holiday!

    Artificial Reefs
Sheepsheads are still the suggested fish to target when fishing these areas. Best bait as you most likely already know is the purple back fiddler. We used to say, “It takes 10 fiddlers to catch one Sheepshead!” This is a true statement. However, once you get the old Sheepshead bite pattern down this number could change and read like this: “After losing your first 10 purple back fiddlers you will most likely get this fish’s bite pattern dialed in!” If not, this could cost you another 20 fiddlers!

Black sea bass populations are strong in these areas and this bite has not let up or let us down! The fact of the matter is a fisherman that heads to one of these areas is going to look real good to those others in the boat with them! The reason being is it is one fish after another! Now I must say to get to one fish after another you have to be in the right location and have the right bait. Since black fish are known for having a strong feeding constitution that in most cases location is more important that the bait used!

Let’s say, “You have found the location and you got fish!”
The best bait can anything from cut squid, fresh fillet black sea bass, shrimp, and any kind of artificial bait that offers scent or not. For those fishermen that like to do a little jigging well this is one fish that will take you up on dropped and or retrieved bait. As I said before I have used strips of t-shirt to catch black sea bass before! The bottom line is where you have black fish you got a target rich catching environment!

We still have this offshore unbelievable bite and I promise to keep you informed of any changes! As far as best artificial baits to use I suggest using the old school 3 ounce diamond jig!

Oops, got to go…got another fish on!
    Savannah Snapper Banks

This is another area that is holding a lot of fish. The difference between this area and the artificial reefs is the fact that with deeper water you get more species of fish. This boils down to lots of different colors in the fish box!

    Gulf Stream Report
    It is time to go!

    Maybe, maybe not!

Mahi Mahi aka known as dolphin! It has always been my belief that when you see a dolphin with rubbed off or burned areas such as these that it might have been a bill that did it! I am talking about a marlin or sail fish bill! After all, a marlin or sailfish doesn’t have any teeth so therefore they must beat it up before eating it!

Here’s little about Miss Judy’s Gulf Stream Trips

    14 hours trips

Back in the old days we proved catching fish at the stream wasn’t just good in during May and June, but also all the other months. Our nineties Gulf Stream motto was, “If the weather’s good, let go!” With that being said, “Blue water catching history is repeating itself!”

Captain Ryan Howard’s 31 Sea Vee Center Console (this is a boat that was built for especially for offshore big game fishing!)
Miss Judy Charters along with Captain Ryan Howard is offering a 14 hour Gulf Stream trip just like we did back in the good old days! Captain Ryan’s boat is a 31 Sea Vee center console with cuddy cabin powered by a single engine diesel, which cruises at 26 knots. As you can see from the photo shown above this boat has lots of fishing maneuverability. For seating Captain Ryan is going be offering bean bags along with cushioned seats. However, when riding in a boat like this you most likely will want to do a lot of standing and watching, because you certainly don’t want to miss anything. Since this boat offers a full 360 degree of ocean viewing opportunity you really never know what you might get to see! Believe me over the past years I have seen some sights from flying fish to mermaids!

A little about the fishing trip
Once arriving at your destination you could find yourself trolling or bottom fishing. It is all about the bite and what’s best at the time of your arrival. As far as trolling you could find yourself catching Mahi Mahi (also known as dolphin) Wahoo, tuna, mako shark, and bill fish such as marlin or sailfish. When it comes to bottom fishing I can assure you that you really never know what you might catch when you drop to the bottom. The reason being is there are so many different kinds of species swimming on the bottom at 150 plus feet of water that sometimes we even have to get out the fish identification book. You can choose which type of fishing that you prefer. We are prepared to change up at any time. The trolling as well as the bottom fishing is very good in this area, but I guarantee you this, if one type of fishing doesn’t produce Captain Ryan will switch it up!

Cost $2,300.00 (15% tip included for first mate) the only extra cost would be for fish cleaning.

    Departure times:
All Gulf Stream trips depart around 6:00 AM and should around return 8:00 PM. Now if you want to return earlier we certainly can!
What we furnish and what you need to bring:
As always our boats provide bait, tackle, (rods and reels) ice for fish, and fishing licenses. As you can see there is not much cover/shade on this boat so therefore I suggest bringing hats, sunglasses, foul weather gear, and sunscreen. As far as your drinks and food I suggest packing it in 120 quart coolers or two 60 quart coolers. As with all of our trips fishing cleaning is extra and runs about $.40 cents per pound.

    As the Propeller Turns…
Captain Buddy shows you how to operate your boat and Miss Judy Charters shows you how to catch fish! A winning combination!

If you want to get your best chance at learning serious and safe boating skills, this is a great place to start! Give Captain Buddy Lee a call!

Little Miss Judy Believe It or Not!

    Frank Clinton Murray
    1950-2015

What can we say about Frank Murray? We all met him many years ago! On fish day as he made way down the dock to my boat, Frank always said, “Good morning” and then he said “Permission to come aboard captain?!” He was most likely the nicest and most thoughtful person that I have ever met. Frank’s soft spoken words, when it came to fishing were signature only to him. He always wanted all of the details explained so that he could effectively catch his fish. Although he never let on I knew he was an avid fisherman that he had fished many times over. There is this thing about a true fisherman such as Frank; there is always something else to learn! He will be missed by many, but forgotten by none…
Especially us over here at Miss Judy Charters!

Our condolences go out to his family. Although we never met I felt like I knew each through his endearing stories.
