The whiting are biting! I love this saying!

It’s that time of year where the whiting bite is a little furious! They are not a big fish. However, we are catching a few bull whiting, which is the same as a small whiting just larger. A bull whiting can get to about the same size as spotted sea trout. Whiting fishing is not for everyone, but those that want to do more catching than fishing this would be the fish to target. For those fishermen that don't consider the old whiting a sports fish just haven't caught one on the light tackle.

What does this show us? This is a hook that was baited with a small piece of shrimp that still had its shell intact. And this is what happens when a whiting eats, it removes the shrimp’s shell first. However, the whiting in this particular case didn’t want to mess with the shrimp’s shell nor the hook in it!

This is called a whiting cocktail! It is a piece of peeled shrimp and a small piece of fresh whiting fillet.

    Hello cobia!

Did you know that a cobia’s teeth line the jaw, the tongue, and the roof of its mouth? Once this fish grabs a hold of its intended meal chances of it getting a way is not likely. At first it was thought that a cobia sucked it’s in food before swallowing. However, with its teeth placed as they are it is only going to take this fish a few grab a holds before down the hatch it goes.

Cow Nose Rays have arrived and what generally comes with them? The beginning of cobia season!
