  • I've enjoyed the outdoors and fishing for as long as I can remember. It was a way of life and still is to this day. Now I run my own guide business and fish tournaments across the country. If your looking for a good, laid back, fun time on the water or some serious learning give me a call or drop me an email. I fish Kentucky and Barkley Lake along with winter trips on Lake Okeechobee.

Bass: The bass fishing was ready to bust loose this week before we got hit with some major rains this past weekend dumping some large amounts of rain over the lakes area. This really dirtied up the water and cooled it down pushing back the major spawning wave that should have hit the banks this week with the full moon over head. As usual some fish still hit the banks to do their thing but many have pulled back and are in limbo waiting out better conditions. Our best areas right now have been in half way back in the bays and creeks along lead in banks and flats where fish are staging to go in and spawn. These areas will remain really productive over the next 6 weeks as fish transition in and out of spawning. We've caught a few fish in the backs across the flats on lipless baits and spinnerbaits and are still catching fish on main lake ledges and drops. Bait choices it's hard to beat a SPRO Aruku shad or Little John in a Bag 5 Baits custom rootbeer, red craw or blue glimmer color when covering water. When we've slowed down we are pulling out the Outkast Tackle Shake Down shakey head or Touch Down football head. We are pairing these with Big Bite Baits plastics with a 8'' finess worm in Grn Pmpkn/Junebug color on the shakey head and a Tilapia colored swimmin craw on the football head. The A-rig has had a great showing again this year after a break out year a few years ago.

Crappie: The weather has played havoc with these guys also as the blacks should have hit the bank hard this week and just like the bass some did but many pulled back and are in a holding pattern waiting for better conditions. I feel like we will have a major push on the new moon here also along with the whites that will spawn out a little bit deeper. The weather this week hasn't made it easy to fish with high winds most of the week. Trying to find a place to fish properly has been a challenge in its self. We really never found one technique or pattern that worked any better than another and just had to move a lot and keep checking different type of cover looking for an active fish.
