  • I have been fortunate enough to make a life long past time into a livelihood. I am on the water every chance I get to try and stay keyed in on the almighty striper and to ensure limits of fish for each and everyone of my customers. However, the occasional tough days do happen, it is fishing, I give my word that I will do everything in my power to ensure that you and yours catch fish!

Well striper fishing on the eastern end of Cumberland has absolutely been great as usual. We are catching nice limits of big healthy fish everyday. Water temps are in the mid 60's at mid creek and high 50's to low 60's on the main lake up here. With all the recent rain that we've had and continue to have it has made water clarity a real issue in some places. Debris is pretty rough on days with little too no wind. We have had several fish over 20lbs this month already and right on track to have several more hopefully. You can check out my Facebook page or website for more current and up to date pictures of our daily limits. Most days the "norm" is 24"-28" right now but were getting several fish over 30" each day with the occasional mid 20 lbers. Its great too see our fish growing and doing so well so quickly from recent years. As those that know me I am always chasing the very shallow fish during spring and this year with water levels in our newly abundant crop of trees and bushes all over the banks and in the heads of the creeks it is presenting my spring time style of fishing several new challenges and obstacles to overcome each day. Planers fished shallow anywhere from 10-20 ft behind the board on light weights and free lines seem to be the most productive method for me right now. However on days the debris is too bad where I am fishing, bottom fishing on clay flats and points is also turning up some nice fish as well. Either method of fishing will work well if you can keep your catch outta the trees. Cloudy overcast days the fish seem to be right in the trees and on the bright sunny bluebird sky days i seem to do better in open water. Spring time is one of my favorite times of year, fish are shallow and aggressive, and can literally be anywhere. You could catch a nice limit of fish in the headwaters in 15 ft of water as far up as you can go in the creeks. You could catch fish mid creek and there are plenty on the main lake as well. Spring time is also a tougher time for idling around hunting fish as most are so shallow the big motor running will spook them fast. Everyone also always wants to know about the crappie bite up here as well, it is on the slow side but the best crappie seem to be coming out the upper third of the creeks in 20-30 ft of water near the larger brush and trees right on the steeper banks. Don't be afraid to think outside of the box. Good luck to everyone and be careful on the water. Feel free to call anytime for a more up to date report.
