• Biologists Conducting Study on Crappie at Dierks Lake, Arkansas

Biologists in southwest Arkansas are currently conducting a study on Dierks Lake to determine annual catch rates of crappie. Many crappie were tagged with special blue tags behind the dorsal fin and released in January. Anglers who catch one of these fish are encouraged to do whatever they would normally do with the fish and keep the tag. They can then call the phone number on the tag and answer a few questions about their fishing experience. Results from this study will be used to determine the percentage of crappie removed from the population each year and will be used in future management to keep the lake productive for years to come.
