  • Savannah Saltwater Fishing Report - GA

The Black tips have arrived in the surf around Little Tybee

Glenn Conway avid fisherman sent me this interesting fishing report straight from the beach. This shark was caught while surf fishing over on Little Tybee Island.

According to the report, Glenn, had several other sharks hooked up, but he never landed them. However, they were most likely were about the same size. This shark hit Glenn’s preferred used bait, which is also mine, a whiting. Now this is bait that reminds me what my father called “setting up a racing car!” This bait as well as a racing car has to be set up properly in order for it to work. To set up a whiting up you need to cut the fish’s tail off, scale it, and then score it. And that’s exactly how you turn a 10 to 12 whiting into a big fish such as in this picture shown above. It sounds like a great trade off to me! Congratulations Glenn, nice shark and we appreciate the heads up in the bait department!

And how do you cook a shark if you decide to keep one? Well it so easy, steak it, season it, and throw it on the old Barbie. (Now that is some good old Aussie slang!) Please know we always ask that if you are not going to eat it you need to release it!

    Inshore big red fish!

Bob better known a “Bull Man” and his wife Mrs. Eva visited last week planning to do a lot of serious fishing with the hopes of some catching too! They fished with Captain Kevin Rose on their first day and caught some nice slot reds. On their second day of inshore fishing they went with Captain Matt Williams and Mrs. Eva got to catch her nice trophy red fish, which she released, unharmed back to the wild. On their third day of fishing I took them to the Savannah Snapper banks. (Please look for details of this trip in Savannah Snapper Banks section of this fishing report!)

While inshore fishing with Captain Matt Williams of Miss Judy Charters this past week Mrs. Eva caught herself a nice trophy red fish.

Red fish, spotted sea trout, flounder, whiting and shark!

    Inshore Bite
Well, I am not going to sugar coat this report. Yes, our captains have had good days catching red fish, spotted sea trout, flounder, and bonnet head sharks. However, when these fish don’t step up to the hook there is always is a backup plan. Now that the inshore water temperatures have finally reached the norm for this time of the year the whiting and other biters have been performing nicely.
Plenty of bait to be had!

The best news is there is plenty of live shrimp to be had. You can catch your own or you can purchase it from your local bait house. Our bait houses in this area is Adams Bait 912 898 1550, Hogan’s marina 912 897 3474, and Stewart’s 912 786 7472. I always suggest giving a call before arriving!

    Artificial Reefs

    It is Cobia Catching Time!

If you happen to take a picture at of the port top rod holder on my boat Miss Judy Too this is what you are going to get in your picture taken. It might not be on the same rod, but I can guarantee it will be the same Whoopass style jig!

A great lure also known as Cobia Candy! What can you get such a cobia catching set up? http://www.nutsandboltsfishing.com/c...-pack-blueback Just order it order to catch it!!

    Savannah Snapper Banks
For those that want to experience a fun fishing trip I suggest consider taking a Savannah Snapper Banks Trip! The reason being is at a depth of 100 feet plus of water you really never know what you might catch much less see!
